General Product Information

Q: What is a hydraulic bottle jack and what is it used for?

A: A hydraulic bottle jack is a compact, vertically-oriented lifting tool that uses hydraulic fluid pressure (based on Pascal’s law) to lift heavy loads with minimal manual effort. Sahaj hydraulic bottle jacks are commonly used for lifting vehicles, machinery, and other heavy equipment for maintenance, tire changes, or repair work.

Q: What lifting capacity does my Sahaj jack support?

A: Capacity varies by model, ranging from smaller 16-ton+ units to heavy-duty 125-ton units. Check the capacity rating stamped on the jack’s body or base plate, or refer to your product label/invoice.

Note: Never attempt to lift a load heavier than the rated capacity printed on the jack. Overloading is a serious safety hazard.

Q: What is the lifting range (minimum and maximum height) of the jack?

A: Each model has a specified minimum (closed) height and maximum (extended) height, usually listed on the product label or packaging. Refer to the product catalog for your specific model, where all details from minimum height to maximum height are mentioned.

Q: What comes in the box?

A: Standard packaging typically includes the hydraulic jack unit only [  a handle/lever bar (may require assembly & sold separately), and a user manual], Please check your box contents against the packing list on arrival and report any missing items to our support team within 15 days.

Before First Use

Q: Do I need to do anything before using the jack for the first time?

A: Yes. Inspect the jack for any shipping damage, attach the handle securely, and check the oil release (release valve) screw to make sure it is closed before use. It’s also a good idea to test-lift a light load first to confirm smooth operation.

Q: Does the jack come pre-filled with hydraulic oil?

A: Most Sahaj bottle jacks are shipped pre-filled with hydraulic oil. However, air can get trapped in the system during shipping, which may cause the ram to feel spongy or not rise fully on first use. This is normal and can usually be resolved by bleeding the jack (see the troubleshooting section).

Q: What kind of surface should I place the jack on?

A: Always place the jack on a firm, flat, and level surface capable of supporting the combined weight of the jack and the load. Avoid soft ground, gravel, or sloped surfaces.

Operating Instructions

Q: How do I raise the jack?

  • Make sure the release valve (release screw) is closed by turning it clockwise until snug — do not overtighten.
  • Position the jack’s saddle securely under a manufacturer-approved lifting point on the load.
  • Insert the handle into the pump socket and pump up and down with steady, full strokes to raise the ram.
  • Once the desired height is reached, always support the load with rated jack stands or blocks before working underneath it.

Q: How do I lower the jack?

A: Turn the release valve slowly and carefully counter-clockwise (typically a quarter turn is enough) to allow oil to flow back and lower the ram gradually. Never open the release valve fully or quickly, as this can cause a sudden drop.

Q: Can I leave a load resting on the jack alone?

A: No. A hydraulic jack should only be used to raise or lower a load — never as a permanent support. Always transfer the load onto rated jack stands, blocks, or cribbing before performing any work.

Safety Precautions

Q: What are the key safety rules I should follow?

  • Never exceed the rated load capacity of the jack.
  • Only use the jack on hard, level, and stable ground.
  • Never place any part of your body under a load supported only by the jack.
  • Always use jack stands or equivalent supports for any work under a raised load.
  • Do not use the jack to lift people or as a permanent support/lifting device.
  • Center the load on the saddle; avoid off-center or angled loads.
  • Keep the jack away from open flames, extreme heat, and corrosive substances.

Q: Is the jack safe to use on an incline?

A: No. Bottle jacks are designed for use on flat, level surfaces only. Using the jack on a slope or uneven ground can cause the load to shift or the jack to tip over.

Maintenance and Care

Q: How often should I check the hydraulic oil level?

A: Inspect the oil level every few months with regular use, or immediately if you notice reduced lifting performance, a spongy pump action, or the jack not reaching full height. Add hydraulic jack oil (not brake fluid or motor oil) as needed.

Q: How do I store the jack when not in use?

A: Fully lower the ram, wipe down external surfaces, and store the jack upright in a clean, dry location away from moisture and dust. Extended storage with the ram fully retracted helps prevent seal damage and corrosion.

Q: How do I clean the jack?

A: Wipe the exterior with a clean, dry or lightly oiled cloth. Avoid spraying water directly onto the unit, and never use solvents near the seals or release valve, as this can damage rubber components.

Q: How often should I have the jack professionally serviced?

A: For jacks in regular or commercial use, an annual inspection and service is recommended. The jack is used when there is a problem, so keep checking and inspecting it from time to time. Inspect before each use and service if you notice any performance issues. If you have any problems, please contact Sahaj Jack’s technical team. Do not try to solve the problem yourself, return it to the company.

Troubleshooting

Q: The jack won’t lift the load or lifts only partway. What should I do?

  • Check that the release valve is fully closed.
  • Check the oil level and top up with proper hydraulic jack oil if low.
  • Bleed trapped air: with the release valve open and no load, pump the handle rapidly 4–5 times, then close the valve and try again.
  • Confirm the load does not exceed the jack’s rated capacity.

Q: The jack lowers on its own or leaks oil. What does this mean?

A: This usually indicates worn seals, a faulty release valve, or internal damage. Stop using the jack immediately, as this is a safety issue, and contact our service team for inspection or repair rather than attempting to continue use.

Q: The pump handle feels loose or spongy.

A: This is often caused by trapped air in the hydraulic system. Follow the air-bleeding steps above. If the issue continues after bleeding, the unit may need servicing.

Q: Rust or corrosion has appeared on the ram or body.

A: Wipe away light surface rust with a dry cloth and apply a thin coat of oil to the ram. For significant corrosion affecting the ram’s smooth movement, please contact support, as this can affect seal integrity and safe operation.

Warranty and Support

Q: What is the warranty period for my Sahaj hydraulic jack?
